Can London compete effectively with Bermuda for ILS business?

The Financial Times has just posed this question, in an article published on 14 December 2016.

The short answer seems to be no, for a variety of legal, regulatory and tax reasons associated with the creation and operation of efficient Insurance Linked Securities and associated structures.

But the Bermuda market cannot afford to be complacent, since the London market appears pretty keen to catch up, as does Dublin and the offshore jurisdictions.

All this assuming that Oxfam doesn’t get in the way first.
