The state of Massachusetts suddenly declines to recognize Bermuda driving licences …

In response to a query from the local office of the United States Consulate General, the Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Agency confirmed that holders of Bermuda licences cannot rent cars or drive at all, as the island is not signatory to the Convention on the 1943 Regulation of Inter-American Automotive Traffic, as well as a 1949 United Nations Convention on Road Traffic“.

This story is quite hard to believe, since we all know that the Bermudian driving test is one of the hardest to pass in the world! However, Bermuda does not appear to recognize even a single foreign driving licence on its own roads, so perhaps some reciprocity is in order?
