Cayman Islands repeals one Confidentiality statute, but enacts another

The Cayman Islands has recently repealed the Confidential Relationships (Preservation) Law, and replaced it with the Confidential Information Disclosure Law 2016.

The main changes are that:

  1. it is now no longer a criminal offence to disclose confidential information;
  2. there is now a “whistle-blower” defence available to persons that disclose confidential information in certain circumstances.
